How to make Sassafras Tea

Learn to make a delicious free tea that can boost your immune system. Sassafras tea has long been known as a spring tonic. Dig during the winter months when the sap in the roots. Sassafras tea is used as a diuretic and stimulant.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • sassafras root
  • hatchet or axe for cutting
  • large pan
  • water
Step1
Locate a small sassafras tree. You can identify a sassafras tree by the "root beer" type smell of the root. To dig a section of sassafras root, Take hatchet or axe and chop out about 6" of the root from the tree.
Step2
Clean off the root, wash well. Put root in large pan on stove. Boil for 5-7 minutes until the water turns red. There will be a delicious smell that reminds you of "root beer".
Step3
Remove the root and strain liquid into pitcher. Sweeten to taste with honey or sugar.
Step4
Pour tea over glass of ice and enjoy.

  • Contains traces of carcinogen safrole in sassafras oil.
