How to make crayon heart valentines

If you’re looking for that entirely unique gift for your child to give their classmates that does not include a truckload of sugar then this craft will work great. Not only will it keep your child busy but it will last much longer then valentines.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Muffin pan
  • Cookie sheet
  • Oven
  • Crayons
  • White sticker labels

Step1
Remember all those random broken crayons you use to toss away. Keep them in a container up out of reach from the kids and pull them out for this little favor. Break up any crayons that are larger then your muffin pan holes. The more colors you use the better.
Step2
Fill muffin pans with the crayon pieces. You can buy designer pans such as hearts or other shapes for less then designer prices at Hobby Lobby or other craft stores.
Step3
Cook your crayon muffins at 200 degrees in the oven for 10 – 15 minutes until colors begin to melt together. Place the baking sheet below to collect any crayon ooze if the pan is too full.
Step4
Take pan out and set aside to cool. Crayons should slide right out of the pan or pop out of the flexible plastic oven safe molds once cool.
Step5
Place white stickers on the back and include a little Valentine message like, “You brighten my day.” Include a line for the To and From if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Crayola crayons melt better and form a more uniform heart or muffin.
  • These can also be put into a treat bag with a little note pad or mini color book.
  • Never leave melting crayons unattended in the oven.

on 1/31/2008 What a great idea--I am going to make some of these for the Children's Home!!! (I always have broken crayons, lots of them. Rarely have I seen a whole crayon--I sometimes forget they come that way...lol). This is such a great idea! My nieces may prefer to distribute these at school rather than the usual valentine cards.
