To some this article on how to learn to drive a car the quick way may seem a bit unorthodox;however, to my dad it was just a normal thing to do. Now, he taught me how to drive the traditional way with the use of a clutch and a manual transmission.

Things You'll Need:

  • You will need to size up your driver: what idiosyncracies there are and how to capitalize on them from a driving standpoint. Driving a car in reverse for some can be a quick, expedient way to learn to

How to Learn to Drive a Car the Quick Way

  1. Step 1

Size up your driver, his/her idiosyncracies and propensity to learn to drive in reverse. Teach them to drive slowly, deliberately, but with the tires and bumpers in mind: where they are positioned regardless of where you go or turn the car with the driver's head turned in the proper direction.

  2. Step 2

Proceed to execute different manuvres aiming the car in several directions, from right to left, edging the road, moving the car in reverse to the middle of the road.
Pay attention to the usage of the clutch in contrast to the gas pedal: when you push the clutch, engage the gear, release the clutch and give it some gas, move slowly with no jerky movements.

  3. Step 3

Continue with Step 2 to now include parallel parking, the same procedures with the clutch and gas peddle. All the while, as teacher speak gently with no stress in your voice as this makes for a relaxing adventure, which it really is for the neophyte, someone who never dreamed they would be doing this, let alone driving in reverse like a crazy (but savvy) person.

  4. Step 4

When all the manoeuvres have been properly executed, all questions asked, everything has been tried in reverse imaginable: you are ready to drive forward. The exception now is that you have to adhere to the front tires and their respective bumpers. Not for the faint of heart, but assuredly can produce huge positive results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Know your learner, the person learning to drive: their patience level, whether they are passive-aggressive, prone to anger, all those elements because their patience will be tried. Always use a calm voice and speak slowly and deliberately without criticism, regardless of where they take the car.
  • If you do not size up the learner properly, it could lead to problems. For my dad it did not matter: he knew the pastor could pull it off because he was a calm, intellectual person who had already had his share of successes in life.
