Have you ever been approached by a friend or family member who is selling a product? Did they ask you to host a party to sell products for them and offer free or discounted product for you? If you don't have time for a party or want to have people invade your home, but do want to get free, amazing products your friend is selling, here's your solution. Catalog Parties!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Consultant who sells a product you want to get for free by hosting a party.
  • Marketing materials from that consultant to hand out to friends and family.
  • Self-Confidence and assertiveness.

Step1
Ask the consultant that is selling an amazing skin care or other product you are interested in about hosting a rewards-type party. (I host a party for you, you give me free/discounted product in return).
Step2
Discuss with the consultant having a CATALOG PARTY, which is simply taking marketing materials the consultant provides you(catalogs/brochures/business cards/order forms, etc.) and hand the marketing "packets" to friends/family members/colleagues. You don't have to buy anything or get your house ready for guests, and friends/family members/colleagues can look over the catalogs at their leisure without feeling pressured to buy anything.
Step3
After you receive the marketing materials packets from your consultant, hand out the packets to friends/family members/colleagues, giving them a brief explanation of the product, and a date you would like the information back with their orders. (Ask your consultant about special promotions or special/interesting info on the product you can point out to your friends) (Give them 2-3 days so you can get the packets back and give to another group of friends). Tell them there is no pressure to buy, and you appreciate their time.
Step4
On the return date specified to group 1 of your prospective buyers, collect the marketing materials and orders. Place the orders in an envelope so you don't lose them!
Step5
Hand out the same catalogs/etc. to another set of friends/family members and repeat the steps above. Give this last round of buyers a due date to return the marketing materials/orders of 1 day prior to your due date with your consultant.
Step6
Collect the last of the marketing materials/orders and tally the total retail sales. Choose a free product within the company's guidelines and give the marketing materials, orders, and your free product request to your consultant.
Step7
Wait for your free product and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to your consultant about a date for your party, giving yourself 1-2 weeks. Factor in time to hand out packets, retrieve them, and hand them to others, then collect all the materials back with orders.
  • Ask consultant for as many marketing materials (catalogs/brochures/business cards/order forms, etc.) as she can spare. The more you get, the more people you can pass them out to at once.
  • Give yourself one day before the day your consultant needs all the marketing materials back to tally up the order total so you can determine what product you would like for free so you can tell your consultant when you return the materials/orders (the amount of freebies is based on the amount of your total sales for the party).
  • Ask your consultant to place a sticker on the marketing materials packet that says "Return to " with your name, so the person who is reviewing the catalog will not forget to whom to return the information!
  • Discuss with your consultant if you need to collect payment upfront, or if it is not required until delivery of the product so you can tell your friends.
  • If pre-payment is required, do you charge tax on the product?
  • Ask the consultant if she is going to pay for the shipping costs or if that cost needs to be added into each individual's order.
  • Discuss with the consultant who will be delivering the product (you or her) to the buyers, or if the orders can be direct-shipped to the buyers.
  • If someone is not interested in buying at the time of your party, but has an interest in the future, be sure to give them a catalog or business card with a website address/information so they can place an order at another time. If you get enough business this way, work out something with your consultant to give you something for bringing in the new business after it comes in.
  • Your consultant may have a time deadline to get your free product ordered, so ask about the timing of the party. For example, Seriesse International gives the consultant 1 week from the date of the party to inform the home office of the order #'s from the party. They then confirm by the order #'s the order totals in the system to make sure they equal the reward amount and the free product request.
