How to Use Vaseline As a Beauty Product

How to Use Vaseline As a Beauty Product thumbnail
Use petroleum jelly to smooth your eyebrows.

Yes, it's thick and can be messy, but this petroleum-based product has 1,001 beauty uses. Vaseline was discovered by the chemist Robert Chesebrough in the late 19th century, when he observed local factory workers using rod wax to moisturize their skin and heal cuts. Amazed by the product's therapeutic benefits, he went back to his lab and mixed up so many batches of the key ingredient, petroleum jelly, that he had to use his wife's vases to hold the product. He added the word "line" to "vase," and an amazing beauty product was born. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Brighten your smile. Beauty pageant contestants have been known to take a small amount of Vaseline and smear it on the gums above their front teeth to make their smiles glisten.

    • 2

Use it on rough feet. Soak your feet in a pan of warm water for 15 minutes, then exfoliate them with a pumice stone. Slather on a generous amount of Vaseline and throw on a pair of your thickest white socks. When you wake up the next morning, your feet will feel smooth and gentle.

    • 3

Make your own lip gloss. Purchase or use an old contact lens case and place a small amount of Vaseline in it. Scoop out leftovers of your favorite lipstick, then mix them together in the case. Voila! You have your own brand of homemade lip gloss.

Create a gel to groom and hold your eyebrows in place. Place a tiny drop of Vaseline on an eyebrow brush and run the brush over your brows to smooth and style them.

    • 5

Employ petroleum jelly as a styling and holding product for dry hair. Dab a small amount on your fingers, then style as usual. You'll soon see your hair looking and feeling better than ever, and your style will last longer, too!

    • 6

Manufacture your own eye makeup remover. Put a small amount on a tissue or towel, then rub it gently over the eyes. It should remove all your eye makeup, even waterproof mascara.

    • 7

Use Vaseline as an inexpensive alternative to paraffin treatments. Slather copious amounts of the jelly on your hands and feet. Then wrap them in hot towels for five minutes for a quick moisturizing treatment. Your hands and feet will feel smooth as silk.

    • 8

Soothe chapped, scaly lips. Slather your lips with a fair amount of Vaseline, then use a toothbrush to massage them. Wipe off the excess with a tissue. Your lips will be smooth and kissably soft.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the petroleum jelly sparingly. Too much can make your hair greasy and your hands and feet feel slimy.

I am a huge Vaseline fan and have found it simply great for dry skin on feet and it has worked wonders as a night cream. Vaseline is also very good instead of mascara during the summer as it gives the appearance of mascara but doesnt smudge.

i keep a tub of vaseline at my desk and my co-workers think i'm crazy but i love it. i use it as a super inexpensive and non-addictive chapstick. i use it as a face moisturizer/night cream when my face is really dry. If i go snowboarding, i use it as a skin protectant. and it's the best make-up remover EVER!
