Tips & Warnings

  • The fun lies in the customization of your homemade lip gloss. You can buy a variety of flavor extracts from your local grocery store including flavors such as vanilla, coconut, almond, banana, strawberry, and many more. These are usually found in the aisle with the spices and baking supplies. Try adding some peppermint oil for a snappy, pick-me-up flavor. You can even use drink powders including Kool Aid, chocolate milk powder, and Jello instant pudding powders to make unique lip glosses. Don't be afraid to experiment.
  • Would you like your homemade lip gloss to have added moisturizing and healing power? Pour the contents of a Vitamin E oil capsule into the above recipe. This formulation is quite effective for keeping your lips soft and kissable.
  • If you plan on giving your homemade lip gloss as a gift, purchase small metal tins and customize them with your own personalized labels. You can also combine several different lip gloss tins together and create a small gift basket for someone special. Add a big bow and a card and you have a gift that will be fondly remembered.
  • To prolong the life of your lip gloss, place it in the refrigerator. It's also refreshing to apply the gloss when it's just out of the refrigerator.
