Things You'll Need:
- Your Cat
- Treats
-
Step 1
Get Your Cats Attention.
The best time to train your cat to sit is before they eat. They will pay more attention to you if it helps them get to eat sooner. -
Step 2
Get a treat and let the cat see it but don't let him/her taste it. Hold the treat a little higher then there nose and start extending your arm over the cats head while saying sit.
-
Step 3
The Cat should start following the treat with his head and will sit down. After this this happens give the cat the treat and praise him.
-
Step 4
If your cat doesn't sit down, they you can show your cat the treat and hold it a little in front of his nose and start saying sit. WHile you're saying sit start pushing down on the cats rear end. When the cat sits down give him the treat and praise him.

on 3/10/2008 I got my cat from the pound when she was 5 months. Took a few weeks but she learned to sit before I'd serve her dinner. She makes it quite clear she thinks I'm nuts for asking her to sit but she does it for me. At first, she thought I was teaching her to ask for food - so when she wanted her meat, she'd go to the kitchen and sit - waiting for me to serve her :) A year on, we're working on Stay!!!
