Tired of that boring black background on yor Jailbroken iPod Touch? Those plain old icons just ain't doing it for you? Well, you can just use a pre-made theme, but that takes all the fun out of making one yourself!Today, I'l show you how, not only to get custom icons on the Touch, but how to make them! I'll also show you how to get a custom dock and background using a program named, Fugu. Want a free iPod Touch? Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • A jailbroken iPod Touch
  • Fugu
  • Any graphics editor program

Step1
First, install Summerboard on your iPod Touch, if you haven't already. Then install OpenSSH on your iPod as well. Once you have those two packages installed, connect your iPod to your computer and leave it there for the time being.
Step2
Now install Fugu and any graphics editor(s) of your choice. I am no graphics whiz, so I can't recommend anything, I'll just tell you what I used to make very simple icons.
I used ImageWell, to resize the images I got off the internet and to convert them to .PNG files. This is important, all icons must be in .PNG format and 60x60 or smaller. Then once my images were scaled I used a program called Thumbscrew to give them a white border and tilt each one slightly. If you're not graphically challenged, go ahead and start making some beautiful icons for each application of your choice. the dimensions must be, remember that each icon must be 60x60 and in .PNG format. To make a dock, the image must be 320x91, also in .PNG format. To make the background, make any graphic a 320x480 image in .PNG format.
Step3
Once you have all of your icons made, choose which ones you want to cover each application. Once you've chosen, say you want to turn the file... My_First_Icon.png into the Safari icon, then rename the file, Safari.png
Do this to all of your icons until the desired amount is reached. Once you're done with every icon, create two files, the first one will be labeled, "Icons" the second will be labeled whatever you desire, this is the name of your theme. Put all of your .PNG icons into the "Icons" file and the "icons" file into your new theme's file. Rename your wallpaper Wallpaper.png and your dock, Dock.png and drag those two into your Theme file. Leave your theme file on your desktop for now.
Step4
Now, here comes the most challenging part. Assuming you have just made all icons, a wallpaper, and dock, open Fugu with your iPod Touch connected.
Find your iPod's IP address in Settings>Wifi connection> the little blue arrow> IP address.
Type your IP address in, and login as "root". The password is "alpine".
Step5
Once logged in, click Library> SummerBoard> Themes. Click Themes and you should see all SummerBoard Themes you've downloaded so far. Then, drag the theme you just made from your desktop into the SummerBoard Theme file. When it's done loading, go to your iPod>SMBPrefs>Theme>Your_Themes_Name

Tips & Warnings

  • Always rename your files EXACTLY as they appear on your iPod now.
  • Always make sure they are in .png format, I can't express that enough.
  • Make sure everything is in your theme folder before you download it on Fugu.
  • You can do this with pre-made backgrounds and icons, just skip to Step 4.
  • If you don't like how it turns out, just modify it till you're satisfied
  • Fugu download found here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15693
  • ImageWell download: http: //xtralean.com/IWDownload.html
  • Thumbscrew download:http: //www.urbanape.com/software
  • SummerBoard can freeze your iPod, I speak from experience. First time using it, it froze my iPod and I had to restore it. Yet I hear this is rare.
