Prepping the Screen for Extraction
Step1
Make sure the laptop is turned off. Then unplug it from the wall, and take out the battery for safety precautions.
Step2
Remove the keyboard screws on the bottom of the laptop.
Step3
Remove the keyboard from the laptop, but you don’t need to fully detach the ribbon connector from the system board.
Step4
You should notice a pair of wires running up to the screen. These are the wireless antenna. Detach them from the wireless networking adapter. Take careful note of how they were woven around in the system board; you’ll need to reweave the new antenna in the same way.
Step5
Remove the plastic hinges surrounding the actual metal hinges on the frame. Use something nonconductive to get leverage with, and pop them out without warping the plastic.
Step6
Use a T-8 to unscrew the screen from the laptop.
Step7
Disconnect the video cable from the system board. It’ll be a rectangular tan plug that isn’t very far from the screen due to its short, thick cable.
Step8
Lift the screen up and pull the wireless antenna up with it.
Replacing the Screen
Step1
Place the new screen into the laptop by lining the two pegs into the hinge holes left in the laptop.
Step2
Screw the screen back into place. Make sure you can move the screen back and forth before proceeding.
Step3
Weave the wireless antenna back into position on the system board, and then reattach them back to the wireless networking adapter.
Step4
Plug the video adapter cable into the system board.
Step5
Pop the plastic hinges over the metal ones on the screen.
Step6
Replace the keyboard in the laptop.
Step7
Reattach all of the keyboard screws on the bottom of the laptop.
Step8
Replace the battery, and power up the laptop. You should get video on the screen without any issues if all has gone well.
