Why limit yourself to just one little square bulletin board? Instead, earmark an entire wall for messages. Cover a whole wall in cork tiles (a relatively inexpensive and very eco-friendly way to treat walls) and give your posted notes a little breathing room.

If you'd rather avoid the pushpins, but want the effect of an entire wall for messages, try painting your wall with magnetic paint. It's easily available at hardware stores, and you can paint over it with whatever paint you choose. Just be sure to paint multiple coats to make sure your magnets will stick.

To give your bulletin board more of a fine art look, rethink the frame. Many store-bought bulletin boards come with thin aluminum frames or something similarly bland and industrial. You can take your board to the next level by replacing it with a pretty, decorative frame. Or frame a series of smaller boards and hang them together just as you would a collection of art.

If you want to inject a little color or pattern into your office, cover a magnetic board or a corkboard with fabric or wallpaper. Or if you simply want to dress up your board a little, stencil on a pattern with paint.

If you'd rather not have to look at your papers all the time, but like the idea of a bulletin board, hang one on the inside of closet or cabinet doors. You'll have the convenience of a centralized place for notes and papers, without having to look at them all the time.
