Step1
There is mainly two different types of child custody legal and physical. Both of these types of custody my be sole ( one person) or joint both parents.
Step2
Legal custody is who makes the legal decisions for the child: school, medical, religion, medication and so on. If it is sole it is one parent. If it is joint you both have to communicate with on another and make a joint decision. If you can't agree you will need to go back to court. You also have a right to get access to all the child's records and speak to any school, doctors and so on...
Step3
physical custody is who the child lives with 90% of the time. Usually the parent who has physical custody will also receive child support. PArents can also have joint physical where the child lives between both homes about 50/50 and usuallu nobody pays child support...
