Step 1
Bring sandals to wear in the shower and a basket to hold your soaps, shampoos and other shower items. You will also need to bring a towel. This is not a hotel, and the only things provided are a bed and meals, so anything else you will need, you need to bring. This includes all toiletries except for soap. Additionally, you will need to bring bedding. The easiest solution to this problem is a sleeping bag and a pillow.

Step 2
You will also most likely need to rent a car if you are coming down just as an individual or with a group. Larger groups, such as AmeriCorps members and college volunteer groups will provide the transportation for their volunteers.

Step 3
Understand that you will be sharing a room with ten or more people. There won't be much privacy, but this is a great opportunity to get to know people from around the country and the world.

Step 4
Have fun! Be outgoing at meals and talk to people you wouldn't usually talk to. You never know what kind of connections you'll make and this period of altruism might be one of the most fulfilling of your life.
