The Stillman Diet was one of the earliest versions of a Low Carb diet. It's interesting because Dr. Stillman's reasoning is slightly different than others who recommend a low carb diet. Dr. Stillman believed that protein is harder for the body to digest, so eating a high amount of protein stimulates the metabolism.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • the appropriate foods for each phase of the diet
  1. Step 1

The first part of the diet is called the "Quick Weight Loss Diet". It is a highly ketogenic diet and is not recommended for an extended time. There is a list of 5 foods which are acceptable on this diet, and NO OTHER FOODS ARE ALLOWED. They are lean meats, chicken and turkey, lean fish and seafood, eggs, and non-fat cottage cheeses. There must be no fat used in preparation of any of these.

  2. Step 2

The next step is called the "14 Day Shape Up". During this phase you should eat foods which are high in protein and low in carbohydrates and fat.

  3. Step 3

After you have reached your desired weight, you can start the "Inches Off Diet". This involves eating foods that are low in protein. You will probably stay the same weight, but you will lose fat (and inches).

Tips & Warnings
  • The initial diet should only be followed for a few days. It is dangerous to continue long term.
