How to Enjoy the Decatur Beer Festival in Georgia

Every fall the city of Decatur, Georgia is home to a beer festival that showcases the beverages produced by more than 100 local, national and international microbreweries. The event, which maxes out at 5,000 attendees, also features live music and food from local restaurants. No tickets are sold at the gate, so you'll need to plan ahead.

1. Buy your ticket. Typically the event takes place on a date in late October and runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online. For more information, call the hotline at 404-371-8262.
2. Plan your visit. If you're coming from out of town, consider staying at the Holiday Inn Decatur, which offers special room rates for festival-goers. If you're planning to attend and live near Decatur, it's recommended you take the MARTA public transit system into town. Trying to park in Decatur will be a nightmare.
3. Once you are at the event, you will receive a complimentary sampling glass and a map that shows where to find particular brews. Though it's autumn, the weather still can be pretty balmy, so make sure to drink plenty of water while you're sampling the beers.
4. Consider eating before you attend the festival. The restaurants that surround the festival area are likely to be packed, with long waiting lists. You can get food at the festival itself, but don't count on speedy service.
