Step 1
Check the schedule. The zoo is usually open 363 days a year (closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving), but confirm that before visiting. When the weather is particularly cold, the zoo may be closed. Admission for adults (12 and up) is $17.99. Children 3 to 11 get in for $12.99, and children under 2 get in free.

Step 2
Observe the animal feedings. Gorillas are typically fed from 2 to 3 p.m. every day. Other feedings are listed on the back of the visitor map. You can also watch a live show called "It's a Jungle Out There" and visit a petting zoo.

Step 3
Count the more than 200 species on display at Zoo Atlanta, including giraffes, giant pandas, zebras, meerkats, alligators, flamingos and vultures. Consider visiting the zoo on a weekday to avoid crowds and get a better look at all these critters.

Step 4
Look beyond the animals. The zoo includes rides, like the carousel, a train and a KIDZone playground.
