While I was pregnant, I began reading many books to my babies. I read to them starting at 12 weeks gestation. Yes, babies even this young, in my opinion, can hear and understand what you are saying to them. There is nothing wrong with getting your baby or babies off to a good start at loving to read.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Yourself, pregnant
  • A baby or two in your belly
  • A book of any kind to read to your baby or babies

Reading to Your Babies at a Very Early Age

Step1
Once you find out you are having a baby and this baby is growing inside you, this is the perfect time, in my opinion, to begin reading to your baby or twins.
Step2
Because I have always loved reading books, I thought this was something I wanted to extend to my twins as well. Since the invention of the Internet, reading sometimes sits on the back burner.
Step3
It does not matter what you read to your baby or babies, but hopefully it will be something baby related. Maybe you can read some of the books your received for your baby shower(s), a baby magazine, a newspaper article or if your are religious, the Bible, like I read to my twins.
Step4
Once your baby or twins are born, do not stop reading to them. They love hearing Mommy or Daddy' s voice. They will not know what you are reading to them, but they will hear the words you are using.
Step5
When your newborn goes into infant and toddler hood, reading to them will be even better. Especially once your toddlers can reach for a book they love and want Mommy or Daddy to read a particular book to them everyday, the same book over and over again.
Step6
My Twins Reading Books They Love as Infants Here are my twins reading some books they loved at 15 months. Today at 25 months or two years, two months, they bring books to me and Daddy all day, everyday from morning until evening.
Step7
My Twins reading Their Books Also, today at 25 months or two years, two months, my twins love picture books. They can show me where the cat is, the flower is, the airplane or the car in their book is. When I point to a color, alphabet or number, they show me where it is.
Step8
My Twins reading Their Books Oh yes, reading to your baby or twins at a very, very early age will have its advantages. There is nothing wrong with having a baby or twins who want to be read to all day, everyday. Getting your baby or twins to read early in life can only be a plus.

Tips & Warnings

  • Being pregnant is a joy and also a perfect time to let your baby hear your reading to them
  • You can begin reading to your bay at any age or stage of gestation
  • The only warning I would give is, be prepared to have little toddlers who want to be read to all day, everyday!
