Many people assume that vegetarians do not spend a lot of money of food simply because they don't eat meat. But this isn't always the case. Foods can be both vegetarian and expensive. However, you can learn how to be a frugal vegetarian. It's not that hard.

Step1
Prepare foods at home. The cost of eating out quickly adds up, even if you're eating at fast food restaurants. Preparing foods at home is much less expensive. Make extra and take it to work the next day.
Step2
Don't buy prepared foods. Frozen meals will always be more expensive than making the foods yourself.
Step3
Shop at farmer's markets. If you have access to farmer's markets, this is a great way to get your hands on some inexpensive produce.
Step4
Base your meals around cheap, starchy foods. These are things like rice, pasta, and potatoes. They are inexpensive and filling foods.
Step5
Use dry beans. A bag of dry beans is about equal to 3 cans of beans. But usually, a bag costs less than one can.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid the middle aisles of the grocery store. These usually contain higher-priced convenience foods.
