The fundamental key to a long lasting relationship is communication. Now, it is no secret to most everyone that communication is a vital part of any healthy relationship, but most people have lost 'the art of effective communication'. People have lost touch with how to express themselves with each other and in a world of 'instant communication' it ever more important to bet back to the basics of effective communication. Here are the primary elements to effective communication: 1. Listening Skills - you have to have attentive listening skills before you can begin to be an effective communicator. You must not 'hear' what your partner is saying but actually listen to what is said. This requires your full attention to comprehend all that is being said. This means 'face to face' or minimally phone usage. No emails. No texting. Old fashioned 'talking'. Undivided attention. 2. Clarity - make sure to use 'to the point', concise language. Don't use big words or jargon. Get your thoughts out simply and to the point. If you find yourself stumbling with your thoughts than write them down before discussing them. You want to make sure what you are saying is fully understood and interpreted the way you want. 3. Conversational Flow - make sure your conversation and thought pattern follows a 'flow pattern'. You want to make sense and make sure you are 'not all over the place' with your thoughts and words. You want to make sure your partner is understanding fully what you are saying. You these tips and you will be successful!
