Fit More Pictures on a Digital Picture Frame

Whether it's made by Sony, Samsung or The Sharper Image, some digital picture frames claim to hold up to 2,000 pictures. But many shoppers are surprised when they begin to upload photos and get a "Memory Full" message way too soon. Follow these steps to clear up the confusion and fit more pictures on your frame.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A digital picture frame
  • A computer
  • A USB cord to connect the frame to your computer
  1. Step 1

Start from scratch. Follow the product's directions to delete the photos from your digital picture frame.

  2. Step 2

Organize your selections. Put all the images you would like to upload onto your digital picture frame into a folder on your computer.

  3. Step 3

Shrink the file sizes. Most digital picture frames fill up too quickly because the file sizes are larger than necessary. If you're using a Mac, save the photo as a JPG and reduce the quality from "Best" to "Least." If you're using a PC, save the photo as a JPG and reduce the file size in a design program like Photoshop. While it will cause the picture to look pixilated when printed on paper, it should not change the way it appears on a digital screen.

  4. Step 4

Upload the smaller version of your photos back to the digital frame.

Tips & Warnings
  • When reducing the file size of your pictures, consider saving them under a new name so the original larger versions remain saved on your computer. If the title of the picture is "Mom With Dog," for example, save the smaller version as "Mom With Dog-small."
  • Some frames pull pictures directly from your digital camera's memory card. If you are inserting a memory card into the frame and not uploading the images from your computer, you will not be able to reduce the file sizes. Instead, research whether or not you can program your camera to take smaller pictures, fitting more images on each card.
