To lose weight, and keep the weight from coming back is not as hard as you might think. You need to be determined, motivated, and disciplined toward your reaching your desired weight, once you get to your desired weight keeping it off is easy maintenance. A diet is what you eat, your bodies diet can be good or bad depending on what you eat most, your goal is to change from bad diet habits to good healthy diet habits, with slow and consistent changes.
