How to Keep Your Mascara From Clumping

We've all seen them. Creepy crawly eyelashes goop together in an attempt to create longer, lusher lashes. I'm one of the unfortunate ones, because I have skimpy, thin, blonde lashes. So I'm always looking for ways to get some va-va-voom, without looking like Joan Collins on Dynasty. Here are some tips from the experts.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One tube of lengthening mascara
  • One tube of volumizing mascara
  1. Step 1

First, apply one coat of lengthening mascara; it's a thinner formula than the volumizing kind, so you won't get a lumpy start. Separate your eyelashes with a metal-toothed lash comb afterward.

  2. Step 2

For your second coat, put on a volumizing mascara. Get really close to your lash bed, wiggling the wand right in there to avoid depositing too much gunk on the ultrafine ends. It also helps if you sweep the brush from side to side as you move your hand upward.

  3. Step 3

Dried-up color always looks clmupy. Buy a new tube at least every 2 months.

Tips & Warnings
  • For thinner lashes, try a mascara with a smaller brush such as Lash Discovery by Maybelline.
