How to Make a Pad of Paper

This is a fun little ditty if you want a pad of peel-able paper according to certain specifications. Or modify the instructions just slightly, and you can make your own book.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bunch of paper
  • Bookbinder’s PVA or some other white glue that isn’t Elmer’s (it’s too brittle)
  • Wide brush for gluing
  • C-clamps and two boards
  1. Step 1

Jog the paper so the edges are perfectly aligned and place the paper between the boards with about an inch sticking out. Clamp securely with c-clamps.

  2. Step 2

Push the paper over with one hand and spread glue across the edges with the other. Don’t push too far or you won’t be able to peel the paper off the pad.

  3. Step 3

Push the paper over the other way and glue again.

  4. Step 4

Let the glue dry a little, then repeat.

  5. Step 5

Bring the paper back to center and put a couple of coats of glue across the edges.

  6. Step 6

Carefully slide the paper all the way into the boards and clamp tightly, letting the glue dry completely. You may find it useful to put wax paper on either side of the pad so it doesn’t stick to the boards.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to make a book, push the paper really far over when you glue, and do a couple more coats. Then just make a cover that will go all the way around, score the spine creases, and glue to the spine.
  • Try printing on paper before gluing to personalize it.
  • Use different colors in the same pad.

on 11/18/2008 Sorry, that should say "white glue" not "with glue."

on 11/18/2008 If you read the "Things You'll Need" Section, you'll see that I specify bookbinder's PVA or some other with glue that is NOT Elmer's because it's too brittle. For simple projects that don't need to be archival quality, I usually just used Tacky brand glue.

on 11/18/2008 What kind of glue can you use? Elmer's glue; wood glue?
