Step 1
Take monthly notes on all the employees for whom you will be writing a performance review.
-
Step 2
Do an assessment to see how the employee is performing based upon the requirements of the job each quarter. Grade these assessments very strictly so that when your employee gets the results, they will be motivated to perform even better.
-
Step 3
Share your quarterly findings with the employee and coach the employee where there is an opportunity. Document all that transpires, including the employees reaction to your feedback. Let them know that the assessment is only to look at their current performance and identify opportunities for improvement and that it is informal.
-
Step 4
Have your employee provide a written self assessment prior to you completing their annual performance review, so that you can see what they think of their performance.
-
Step 5
Consider their assessment with your three quarterly reviews.
-
Step 6
Consider that your annual performance review should be very similar to the quarterly assessment that you have built up to. Give extra credit for employees who have been coached and worked their way up to become a valued performer.
