After the Christmas and holiday season your basement or garage may become overfilled with trash and boxes, but instead of hauling everything away to the dump, there are many things you can do with old boxes that will breathe new life into them.

Step1

Consider storage. Eventually you will need boxes to fill with clothes, toys or whatever items you wish to pack away. Instead of having to pay for new ones, the old ones are right there and ready to go and who knows when a spur of the moment moving day could require the use of a lot of them.

Step2

Make a fort. One of the most disappointing things on Christmas is having a child open up a huge gift that cost lots of money only to have them rather play with the box. Instead of getting upset over this, simply make the most out of it. Attach a bunch of boxes and create a tunnel, fit with windows and door decorations on both ends. A large fort or clubhouse could also be built by stacking the boxes up and to the side.

Make a puppet theater. If your child is on the more artistic side than the adventurous side then you can also create a fake television or a puppet theater. By simply cutting out one of the sides and adding fake knobs, your child can pretend that they are inside of a television and act out all of their favorite shows.

Step4

Use them as shipping material. Instead of planning a big yard sale, save those boxes and have your yard sale online. Using auction sites like eBay, list all of your items that you want to get rid of and save on shipping costs by already having the boxes you need. This can save you two to three dollars per auction in some cases and not only are you getting rid of the boxes, but you are getting rid of your own junk too.
