Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Pick your show. WWE has three flagship programs, WWE Raw, Friday Night Smackdown or ECW. Each brand has their own roster with a wide mix of talent and before you announce the match you need to learn the roster. Learn all of the wrestler’s names, a brief or even extended history on them, popular rivalries and all of their trademark moves. You should also know the ring announcers, referees and anyone else that appears on camera.
Step2
Know a good history of location as the WWE is constantly touring around the United States. You will want to mention the last time the WWE came there, any big events and compare them to that night.
Step3
Get into character. You cannot simply state the facts. Most announcers take on a role, usually either supporting a good guy, bad guy or somewhere in between. You can mix in jokes, but should always keep it professional.
Step4
Be clear about who you favor. If you favor more of the bad guys than you should approve of everything they do, whether it is really is right or wrong. If it is a good guy, this will be a little easier, because they do not do much wrong, but if they do, you need to learn to justify their actions so that the viewer will understand.
Step5
Have a large vocabulary of almost every wrestling move when you preparing to announce a match. It may seem like a lot, but if you have been watching wrestling for a while than you subconsciously probably know them. The key here is learning special move names like “Backbreaker,” “Tadpole Splash” and others.
Step6
Practice announcing the next time you watch a WWE event on the roster that you have chosen. Simply record the show, watch it with mute and act as the announcer. You can unmute the scenes that have interviews, but remember to comment after them as well.
Step7
Playback the episode and see how your commentary compared to the real thing. Write down pointers and tips that you get from listening. The next time you watch, have a friend there to help you out or critique you on your announcing. You will only get better as time goes on.
