How to Display Your DVD Collection

Since their wide spread release in 1997, digital video discs, also known as DVDs, have swarmed the electronics departments at many stores, and they quickly surpassed VHS tapes in sales and rentals. Many people loved buying these discs, filled with bonus features, deleted scenes and DVD exclusives. One of the best parts about DVDs other than watching them is displaying them, and there are many different ways to do this.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Alphabetize. One of the easiest ways to organize your DVDs on shelves, racks, or however you please is by using alphabetical order. This is the way that many stores do it, and by doing so, movies are easy to locate and find. For movies with numbers in the titles, just go back in numerical order and put them before the "A" section of DVDs.
Step2
For special collections, like a collection of wrestling DVDs, simply put them in the W letter, instead of scattering them throughout and separating things like "Royal Rumble" and "Wrestlemania".
Step3
Genre: To get more specific with the alphabetizing, you can categorize all of your DVDs by genre. You can keep it simple like Horror, Action, Comedy, Drama, or get more specific like Documentary, Zombies, and Slapstick. I recommend that you own a large collection before getting too specific on genres, because then your collection can just become confusing.
Step4
New Releases: When buying new DVDs you might want to scour through all of your other ones before finding it, so keep a section before the rest of your DVDs dedicated to the newest releases you have bought. This can also expand to titles you have not seen yet or ones you wish to view again soon.
Step5
Discs: If you live in a small place, you may not have room to display all of those plastic cases. This can be easily solved by buying a DVD holder booklet and keeping most of your collection right on the coffee table. It makes it easier and faster to scroll through your collection of DVDs and choose the movie you want.
Step6
Mixed media: A great way to compliment your DVD collection is by mixing movie memorabilia with the collection. For example, you could buy a replica Hannibal Lector action figure from the movie "Silence of the Lambs" and display it with the whole Hannibal collection. This will make your collection look more impressive. There are many items other than action figures you could use like books, posters, and snow globes.
Step7
Hidden Collection: One annoyance of owning a large DVD collection is keeping track of friends and family who have borrowed DVDs from you. Instead of showing off your collection and dealing with the hassle of lending DVDs and having them returned, simply get an attic, basement, or walk-in closet and put them there. They can still be displayed for your own convenience but may require a little more dusting.
