A popular way to make snow flakes is folding a piece of paper, cutting out some shapes and then opening it up to find a unique design; these snowflakes are nice to cover classroom windows or children's rooms. But another design for a snowflake is a six pointed snowflake that can hang from a ceiling and made unique with glitter, colored paper or designs.

Things You'll Need:

  • scissors
  • tape
  • white glitter
  • 6 pieces of construction paper (any size that can be made into a square)
  • string
  • hole punch
  • stapler

How to make a 3D snowflake

  1. Step 1

Take six pieces of construction paper and cut into 6 squares. If using typical 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper, simply take a corner and place it to opposite side so it is in a triangle. You will have about two inches left on top so cut this portion off.

  2. Step 2

Start with one square and fold in half.

  3. Step 3

Hold base of triangle. Starting at the outside cut three smaller triangles. Do NOT cut all the way through the paper. The tips of each triangle should still be connected.

  4. Step 4

Open paper up so fold is horizontal.

  5. Step 5

To add a little flare to the snowflake, add glitter to the second triangle cuts and outside triangles.

  6. Step 6

Take the inner most cuts and tape the points together.

  7. Step 7

Flip paper over and tape together the next two points. Repeat this with the last two sections.

  8. Step 8

Repeat steps 2 through 7 for the other 5 pieces of paper.

  9. Step 9

To assemble take three of the flakes and staple the ends together. Do this to the other set of three.

  10. Step 10

Take the two halves and staple the two points together. For more stability staple the six pieces together around the snowflake.

  11. Step 11

Pick one of the points as the top and punch a hole in it. Add a colorful string to hang from the ceiling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your imagination for the paper. Use old wrapping paper or several different colors of paper.
  • Make different sizes, smaller ones can be made out of origami paper.
  • Add different designs to snowflake by adding different color glitter, coloring the different portions of the flake or adding beads.
  • Take your time and make sure not to cut through the top of the triangles or to closely where it will rip easily.
