Nothing is more college than partying. But it can be a pretty intimidating part of going away to college. Here are a few general tips for partying in college.
Take it on. The first few weeks of college are filled with nonstop parties all around campus. Take advantage, as a freshman, of the opportunity to hit up a varied selection of parties. This is a great way to meet new people right away. The early part of every semester has people being extremely open and welcoming so get to know as many people as you can. Go with your dorm mates; it is a great way to get to know them better. You can build lasting relationships this way.
Step2
Take it easy. Despite the inordinate amount of parties available, you don’t have to go to every single one of them. At some point you do have to take it easy. Take a night, early on, to chill out and not party. Try to find friends who are feeling the same way. This is another great way to get to know your new friends better.
Step3
Be safe at parties and always be with friends. Most college parties are pretty safe but there is always the chance of someone in a bad mood looking to pick a fight. Avoid confrontations, especially at a house you are unfamiliar with. Be polite and don’t take any alcohol without asking.
Step4
Dress the part. Most college parties are themed to some extent. Don’t be the 1 kid who decides not to wear a toga. You’ll most likely not even get in and will certainly stand out if you do get in. You might feel silly or uncomfortable but so is everyone else so live it up.
Step5
Don’t drive to parties. The best parties are the ones you can walk to. Many campuses offer taxi services free of charge. If they don’t just take a cab with some friends and split the cost. Always have arrangements for getting home later or a backup plan of where to stay.
