Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Attention to Detail
- Preferably a job in media, sales, or publicity!
-
Step 1
If you have a job that is not in the media or entertainment industry, you can visit one of the many promotional websites that allow you to sign up for trial subscriptions of magazines. These include:
http://www.freebizmag.com
https://www.magazineoutlet.com
http://www.all-freemagazines.com -
Step 2
Become a freelance writer! Everyone has a favorite interest or hobby, and there is sure to be a magazine that is focused towards yours. If you know a decent amount about something, and can write well, think about pitching article ideas to your favorite magazines. If you end up getting published, and start a relationship with the magazine, you are sure to get free issues or a free subscription to the publication.
-
Step 3
Ask your employer. Many companies subscribe to many different types of magazines, either for the benefit of the employees, for the break room, or for the lobby or central office where clients wait.
-
Step 4
If you work for a company that promotes its products or clients to publications, even better! Record labels, design companies, art galleries, hotels, electronics companies, clothing and apparel firms, and many more companies all shill their products to major magazines and newspapers. They also most likely advertise in the same publications. In return, these companies get free subscriptions to numerous magazines, of which you can partake as an employee.
-
Step 5
If all else fails, visit your local public library. Libraries get free subscriptions to hundreds of titles and you can peruse the latest issues on location or check out any of the non-current ones. It's a win-win situation!
