3. Set up traps. The most effective way to get rid of groundhogs is to set up traps and then remove them from your property.

• Many people say that owning a dog is a great way to discourage groundhogs. Dogs will chase the groundhogs away. Additionally, groundhogs can recognize the scent of dog urine and may not even try to set up home in your yard because of it.
