Step 1
Make a list of exercises that you enjoy and have your spouse or significant other make a similar list. Compare your lists and find which exercises you both enjoy and can do together.
-
Step 2
Put together a schedule of when you both can exercise. This will ensure that neither member of your couple feels rushed when you do decide to exercise together.
-
Step 3
Be willing to do some exercises that you may not enjoy. For example, if you don’t like to swim but your wife does, trade off one of your exercises and swim. Like anything of this nature, exercising as a couple must be about compromise.
-
Step 4
Don’t make exercising as a couple a competition. It doesn’t matter who can do the most reps or run the fastest mile. Exercising as a couple should be about two people being healthy and enjoying the time that is spent together.
-
Step 5
Make exercising as a couple more than just going to the gym. This can be as easy as taking a romantic walk on a nice night or going for a bike ride.
-
Step 6
Assist your partner in your exercise routine. If your spouse is unfamiliar with the equipment at the gym, be patient and teach him or her how to use the equipment.
-
Step 7
Make exercising as a couple become part of a routine. For example, you could exercise as a couple every other day and then trade off on who cooks dinner afterwards.
