Step 1
Start your culinary tour of Broad Ripple at the local watering hole, Broad Ripple Brewpub, which is consistently voted among the best brewpubs in Indianapolis. The wide-ranging menu includes everything from burgers and pizza to mussels and shepherd’s pie. The restaurant is also a favorite among vegetarians, who can choose such items as vegetarian sloppy joes, peanut sesame pasta and vegan shepherd’s pie.
-
Step 2
For the best pizza in town, visit Bazbeaux Pizza. The local chain features gourmet pizza toppings, such as hearts of palm and Genoa salami, but the restaurant also offers traditional pizzas, salads, sandwiches and desserts.
-
Step 3
If you’re looking for something more upscale, you can choose from among a number of options. Midtown Grill is known for well-executed food, such as roasted Moroccan rack of lamb, and the most inventive martinis in town. Ambrosia Ristorante offers an upscale Italian option, while Broad Ripple Steakhouse focuses on steaks, seafood and delectable side dishes. The steakhouse frequently appears on lists of the city’s best restaurants, and it could earn the title with its lobster bisque alone.
-
Step 4
On a warm evening after work, as the bars in Broad Ripple start to fill up, find a spot on the terrace at La Jolla Mexican Restaurant. The food isn’t really that good, but the atmosphere is lively and the drinks are large.
-
Step 5
Loud, intoxicated crowds not really your scene? Head to Three Sisters Café, tucked away on Guilford Avenue, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu can best be described as “socially conscious,” as there are plenty of local, organic and vegetarian options. Be sure to try the restaurant’s signature grilled-cheese sandwich, which is made with brie, apple slices and berry jelly.
-
Step 6
If you need another option for breakfast or lunch, try Petite Chou by Patachou. Petite Chou is a French-inspired bistro version of the enormously popular local Café Patachou chain. (Be sure to try the cinnamon toast!)
-
Step 7
French fries and mussels are a strange combination, but those are the signature dishes at Brugge Brasserie, a Broad Ripple restaurant inspired by the flavors of Belgium. Come here for a pot of mussels and a paper cone of tasty fries with your choice of a dozen yummy dipping sauces.
-
Step 8
On a cold winter night, snuggle into the tiny Corner Wine Bar for excellent food and one of the city’s best wine lists.
-
Step 9
Need a coffee break? Head to Starbucks or its local competition down the street, Hubbard & Cravens Coffee Co. Both offer wireless Internet access if you need to get some work done.
