Removing Rust Using Tea
Removing Rust Using Tea

This is one of the easier, relatively safe, and environmentally friendly ways of removing rust from objects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Container large enough to hold items
  • Tea bags
  • Hot water
  1. Step 1

Boil water and make a strong brew of tea, 4-5 teabags per about a pint of water. Let tea cool.

  2. Step 2

Place item to be de-rusted in container and cover with the tea

  3. Step 3

Leave item in the tea, checking periodically on the progress. It may take hours or even several days, depending on how rusted the item is. The item will have a gray color to it when it is finished

  4. Step 4

Rinse the item with clear water, dry, and oil or otherwise treat it to deter further rusting.

Tips & Warnings
  • This process is more likely to be effective with small items that are not heavily rusted.
  • Use care in handling boiling water.
