How to Remove a Dead Backyard Tree

Step1
Depending on how tall the tree is, how dry the tree is and the layout of your yard, see if you can find a safe direction and lean against the tree until it breaks off, falling in a safe area of the yard.
Step2
If the tree doesn't budge from body weight alone, use a ladder to reach the top of the tree.
Step3
Use chainsaw on top branches, and for trimming off the top part of the trunk.
Step4
Step down a few ladder rungs, and continue trimming off dead branches and trunk sections.
Step5
Continue until you are on the ground with a pile of tree branch pieces. Cut into small enough pieces to place in the wood pile or to recycle in your lawn trash can.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only use a chainsaw if you can safely maneuver it. Chainsaws can cause serious injury or death.
