How to Write Your Own Labor Relaxation Script

Many women in labor enjoy relaxing with a guided script. Although there are many programs available that have scripts already written, sometimes it is easier for a mom to relax to her own script. By writing her own script, she can relax to the images and sounds from her memories. She can write about her own journeys, things that made her smile as a child, or her own relaxing imaginary scenes. She can choose the type of music she wants or perhaps just use someone else's voice to guide her. Guided visualization in labor is a great and effective way to cope with the discomfort.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Music (if desired)
Step1
Find your groove. Whether you love to sit in a quiet room or at your favorite bookstore listening to your own music, find a spot where you do your best thinking and where your creativity flows.
Step2
Think about what is relaxing to you. Is it memories of beautiful places? Is it certain sounds or colors? Whatever seems the most relaxing to you is probably what you'll want to write about. Some popular scripts involve rain storms, colors of the rainbow, biblical scriptures or perhaps imaginary journeys to other countries.
Step3
Let your thoughts flow. When you start writing, don't correct yourself. Don't stop to correct grammatical mistakes or punctuation. Just write down all of your thoughts on paper without interrupting the flow.
Step4
Begin the editing process. Check for grammatical and spelling mistakes. If it is going to be a self-read script, it doesn't have to be perfect since you will already be familiar with the story. But, if you are going to have someone else read it to you, make sure everything is correct so they don't make a mistake when reading.
Step5
Add music. Not everyone likes to put music to their words, but if you have a favorite song or piece you like, put it on a CD so that the script can be read with the music in the background.
Step6
Practice reading your script so that you are comfortable with it. Practice relaxing with it. Feel the atmosphere, picture the scenery in your mind and teach yourself to relax when you experience those memories through the written word. Enjoy your creation.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use aroma therapy to enhance your visualization.
  • Put different oils like rose and peppermint on cotton balls so that you can literally smell your scenery.
  • If you write a script that you find particularly relaxing, never read it or have it read while operating machinery or driving a vehicle.
