Essays on How to Write

Essays on How to Write thumbnail
The setup for writing an essay is pretty much the same regardless of the length of the essay.

An essay can be short or long. Essays give organized and well- thought-out ideas about a particular subject. Some essays are two pages long, while others are four to 20 pages long. However, regardless of the length of the essay, the setup for writing an essay is pretty much the same and requires an introduction, a body of paragraphs and a conclusion. The length of an essay is typically 500 words total. However, depending on the style of the paper that you write, such as a research paper, for example, the length is likely to be increased.

Figure out what type of essay you would like to write. There are many types of essays, such as descriptive essays, comparison and contrast essays, and argumentative essays. A descriptive essay is a way of explicitly describing an event or a surrounding. A comparison and contrast essay is an essay that gives negative and positive ideas about an event, about two people or other comparisons. An argumentative essay is a way to express how you feel about a situation and to persuade others. Once you know what kind of essay you will write, pick a topic of your choice.

Write an introduction paragraph. This includes your topic sentence and other sentences that give background information about your essay. You will need to write a good attention-holder/attention-getter and an excellent thesis statement. An attention-holder is a sentence that grabs the audience's attention. The attention-getter locks in the audience's attention by providing more interesting details. A thesis statement gives the audience an idea or ideas of what you believe, and it is the main focus of your essay. You should, at least, mention three ideas about your subject or topic.

Write your body of paragraphs for your essay. You should have at least three paragraphs. Each paragraph should have a topic sentence, and each topic sentence should have a separate idea relating to your introduction paragraph and written in the order of the ideas presented in your introduction. Your paragraphs should support your ideas by the use of examples, facts and arguments that support your ideas and other important information.

Write your conclusion paragraph. This is the summary of your essay, giving proof of your thesis statement by giving facts on each of the three ideas that you've mentioned about your subject in the introduction and body of paragraphs.
