Just starting a home project and the first thing the instructions say is remove the screw/bolt. Sounds easy, but that screw has been there for 12 years and is stuck so solidly Godzilla couldn't turn it. If that's your problem, here's some ideas ranging from the basic standards to the "What the heck, let's try it" that should get that screw loose.

on 1/24/2008 I like the impact driver myself and have used it many times removing screws stuck in metal, if a screw has loc-tite on the threads you will have to heat it up prior to removing it. Loc-tite is a compound used to keep srcews and bolts from coming loose.

on 1/24/2008 Lots of great ideas here - thanks! If you are removing a wood screw to replace a board or a frozen screw in a broken plastic shower knob, you can use a small hole saw in a drill to cut around the outside of the screw, so you can then get at it. If you are dealing with lots of screws, you can purchase a hand impact scew driver for $20 to $35 dollars - I've heard that these devices are also commonly used on motorcycle cases.
