Honest Tea and TerraCycle are challenging schools and churches to help reuse one million drink pouches this year. They will be made into handbags and sold at major retailers in 2008.

According to the Container Recycling Institute, 3.6 billion drink pouches are produced each year, and because they are non-recyclable, virtually every single one is sent to a landfill. Now, however, schools, churches and other organizations can collect the pouches, ship them off to be turned into handbags, and raise money for charity at the same time. Started by TerraCycle and organic drink company Honest Tea, the Drink Pouch Brigade™ uses community organizations to keep drink pouches out of landfills by re-purposing them into purses. How to Raise Money for Charity Recycling Juice Pouches

Step1

Visit www.terracycle.net/brigades and click on the "Sign Up Now" button under "Drink Pouch Brigade." Follow the steps to register as a part of the program and select a non-profit organization to benefit from your participation.

Step2

Within 2 weeks of registration, you will receive four collection bags in the mail.

Step3

Once a collection bag is filled with 100 drink pouches, drop it off at a UPS store near you. Postage is prepaid, so it will not cost you a thing.

Step4

Twice a year Honest Tea will write a check to the charity of your choice, donating $.02 per Honest Kids drink pouch and $.01 per regular drink pouch you helped recycle.

Tips & Warnings

The program is for juice pouches, like Capri Sun and Honest Tea, not juice boxes.
As you send in collection bags throughout the year, Terracycle will replace them with more. For every two you submit full of juice pouches, you will receive two more by mail.
