The signs you should look for if you think you have a Peptic Ulcer is a steady gnawing or burning pain below the breastbone. the pain can be worse on a empty stomach, eating three regular meals a day is advised, along with an antacid in between. Food helps reduce the ulcer pain because,it stimulates the acid production that caused the sore and acts as a protective coating.
Step2
Substances to be avoided include carbonated drinks, beer, tea, and coffee. Small amounts of these can be tolerated if the are taken with food. Milk, or even a bland diet does little to lessen pain or heal an ulcer. Milk can help neutralize a certain amount of acid but then causes a fresh surge of acid later. Trial and error can tell you which foods, if any, you should avoid.
Step3
There are prescription drugs for treating ulcers for those who suffer pain more than others, but many people find over-the-counter antacids work well. Magnesium-based antacids may cause diarrhea; Aluminum-based, constipation. Avoid calcium-based antacids; they cause the same reaction as milk. If you are taking any other medication, ask your doctor before taking an antacid.
Tips & Warnings
Keep a food diary; jot down what you eat at each meal, then note whether pain follows.
