Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  • Location
  • Caterer
  • Reception location
  • Dress
  1. Step 1

Prepare a wedding budget. Although its not romantic, it is the most practical first step to having your dream wedding. Once you have an overall budget it will be easier to find what you want that also fits with the budget. Be sure that before you begin planning you know if any parents will be contributing to the wedding budget.

  2. Step 2

Lay out all of your wedding plans. It will be much easier to get the wedding of your dreams if you know exactly what you want and you have it all laid out for each professional you encounter. When you meet with the florist, you should already know what flowers you want to decorate the wedding location and what flowers will be in your bouquet. The more details you have, the less hellish planning your dream wedding will become.

  3. Step 3

Be realistic in your wedding goals. The reason most brides end up disappointed with certain aspects of their wedding is because they set unrealistic goals. You have your budget so you know what you can and cannot afford. Be prepared to substitute less expensive choices for your original choice.

  4. Step 4

Ask about price. Don't be ashamed to ask how much everything costs, this is your wedding and going over budget on one aspect will affect at least one other aspect of your wedding. If any of your wedding professionals suggests something that deviates from your plan, first you should ask how much it will cost, even before deciding if you like it or not. Remember that your dream wedding is confined to the budget and act accordingly.

  5. Step 5

Don't spend too much on the dress. Most women have an idea of what their perfect wedding dress should look like but ultimately spend too much money for a one-time wear dress. As long as you look beautiful and feel comfortable it doesn't matter who designed the dress. Wedding dresses can be expensive and if you spend too much on the dress, you will have less to spend on flowers, dinner, and the ever-important open bar.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your dream wedding should reflect you as a couple--not your dream wedding from second grade.
  • Your wedding does not determine your marriage; so don't plan it like it does.
