1. Prepare a wedding budget. Although its not romantic, it is the most practical first step to having your dream wedding. Be sure that before you begin planning you know if any parents will be contributing to the wedding budget.
2. Lay out all of your wedding plans. It will be much easier to get the wedding of your dreams if you know exactly what you want and you have it all laid out for each professional you encounter. When you meet with the florist, you should already know what flowers you want to decorate the wedding location and what flowers will be in your bouquet. The more details you have, the less hellish planning your dream wedding will become.
3. Be realistic in your wedding goals. The reason most brides end up disappointed with certain aspects of their wedding is because they set unrealistic goals. You have your budget so you know what you can and cannot afford. Be prepared to substitute less expensive choices for your original choice.
4. Ask about price. Don't be ashamed to ask how much everything costs, this is your wedding and going over budget on one aspect will affect at least one other aspect of your wedding.
