How to Start Living a Simple Life

Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication

This mantra of simple living tells us two things. When we live a simple life we a) make sure that we are doing what is most important to us; and b) eliminate everything else. Simplicity does not mean a less colorful lifestyle or a bland gaze into your future. Instead, we find passion in what we do and do the things that define us endlessly. When we walk out or wake up everyday, we have a list of things that needs to get done. However we tend to make up a long list that never gets cleared out. This brings us stress and discontent that it zaps our energy doing things that we do not want to do in the first place. Some say that in order to live a simple life, you have to get in the real world and fight through it. I say that no one survives the real world and get out sane. Detaching yourself from the bloated lifestyle brings less complications, gives you a clear head, and makes everything else in a tight seam. Living a simple life is also a habit. The reason we get caught up with different worries is because we create the situation ourselves. If we put ourselves in a position where we are forced to make more choices than we can actually take, then the worries will pile up on you. The choices that you make should be hinged around what matters most to you. In this way, every decision counts… a lot. Here is a list of simple habits I have compiled:

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Clear Mind
  • Nothing Else

Step1
Keep Conversations Short. I am privy to small talk as it is pointless for me. If we want to escape the complicated, remember that it is not your business minding other person’s lives
Step2
Engage in Deep Discussions. Keep long conversations when it matters. Then make sure you remember them. I make it to a point to visit my friend’s homes for discussion on their goals, dreams, and their circumstances.
Step3
Use your Clothes Longer. The only clothing item I have bought in the last seven years is a pair of pants. Everything else is either given to me or me ending up having them from my friends house.
Step4
Selective Reading. I am a wide reader but not everything is worth reading. With the tons of excellent material in bookstores, blogs, and libraries, it is not worth the time reading a pointless love stories or an endless political tirade. Read your books slowly and make it mean something. Simplicity spurs from quality seen at every angle.
Step5
Less TV. Pick a couple of shows and stick to it. Better download them so you won’t put up with ads.
Step6
Meditate/Prayer. Having an alone time counts as the simplest thing that you could do daily. Reflecting on your dreams and talking to your personal God (or yourself) keeps everything in perspective.
Step7
Focus on Work. Find a job that you love and do you will never work another day.
Step8
Less Gadgets. I am a believer of the latest technology but only if it helps you do what it is meant to do. Everything else is useless. Peg a longer lifetime for your cam, cellphone, and your computer.
Step9
Travel Alone. This is the literal act of getting out. I love walking alone and appreciate nature in its last majesty. Meeting new cultures is enlightening and you won’t know what new thing you can learn.
Step10
Do not Procrastinate/Focus On Getting Things Done. Do things that are important but do not get them done only when it becomes urgent. Anything urgent=Stress
Step11
Sleep Early. Early to bed early to rise make the man healthy, wealthy, and wise.. greatest tip ever.
Step12
Live Frugally. Every complication in life is predicated on wishing on things against our own limitations. Cutting your spending and trashing materialism will get you ahead of the millions of people who do just that.
