How to Wash Your Face When You Have Acne

Washing your face seems simple enough, unless you have acne. Scrub too hard and you can damage already irritated skin. Use the wrong cleanser and you can dry skin out to the point of flaking, or make it too oily, encouraging even more breakout.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Products formulated for acne-prone skin

Step1
Cleanse with a gentle hand. Vigorous rubbing can pop pimples and cause scarring.
Step2
Use a cleanser with acne-drying ingredients like salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide.
Step3
Moisturize sparingly. If you do decide to dab one on, make sure it's a light formulation that's noncomedogenic (meaning it won't cause breakout).
Step4
Use oil-free makeup. Add oil from products to the oil already on your skin, and you can block pores, which results in more pimples.
