High Chicago is a popular variation of the poker game seven card stud. Follow these steps to play in this fashion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Standard deck of playing cards
  • Three or more players
  • Poker chips
  1. Step 1

Just as in 7 card stud, all players make an ante bet. The dealer deals to his left, giving each player two cards face down and one card face up.

  2. Step 2

The player with the lowest face up card makes a bring-in bet, which is usually the amount of the predetermined limit or another small amount if playing no-limit.

  3. Step 3

Play continues to the left of the bring-in bettor. Each player may call, raise or fold.

  4. Step 4

The dealer gives each active player another card face up. Another round of betting occurs, starting with the player with the best hand showing.

  5. Step 5

The dealer gives each active player a fifth card face up. There is another betting round starting with the player with the best visible hand.

  6. Step 6

A final face up card is dealt to each active player, followed by another betting round starting with the player with the best visible hand.

  7. Step 7

The remaining players get the seventh card face down. A final better round occurs, again starting with the player with the highest showing hand.

  8. Step 8

The pot is split between the player with the best overall 5-card hand and the player with the highest spade among her face down cards.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also play Low Chicago, in which the pot is split between the highest hand and the lowest spade in the hole.
