Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
The fist step in shedding unwanted fat is to eliminate empty calories. I have become aware of a common denominator in the diets of many overweight individuals: soda consumption. The quickest way for anyone with this type of addiction to lose weight is to restrict their intake of sugar filled beverages. With most of these liquids containing astronomical amounts of caffeine, it is no wonder that we fight headaches and loss of energy to give them up. Hang in there though, the headaches will pass, the energy will return, most likely increased, and you will be less heavy for your troubles. Over a period of just three months, I gave up my vice of choice, Mountain Dew, and I lost 40 lbs. Only by cutting out my soda intake.
Step2
Another helpful tip is to stop eating after 7 pm at night. When you eat heavy in the evening, your body turns more of the calories it intakes into fat. Make breakfast or lunch your big meal and have a lighter supper.
Step3
Always eat your breakfast. After all, it is the most important meal of the day. This will jump kick your metabolism and help you to burn calories all day. It will also provide you with the energy you need to survive at work and other tasks you perform throughout the day. Have a good helping of grains, fruit, and dairy in the morning. If you can't live without a little meat, have your biggest portion in the morning. That way you have time to burn off the calories.
Step4
Drink LOTS of water! Although water is calorie free, it does provide our bodies with great advantages over other dehydrated beings. It also helps to keep our tummies feeling full so that we aren't tempted to binge on empty calories. Everything runs smoother when it is well hydrated. Your body is no exception.
Step5
Do not be tempted to weigh yourself several times a day, or even every day. Our body weight fluxuates, depending on our water level, hormones, and other variables. If you must know your weight, get on the scale once a week. But try to weigh yourself at the same time of day. If you first step on the scale at 7am, next week weigh yourself at the same time of day.
The best way to measure your success is by the way you feel. Your clothes will fit better, you will have more energy and others will absolutely notice a better, new improved you!

on 1/24/2008 I have been struggling to lose some weight after the birth of my children. I heard a lot about cutting out soda and extra amounts of caffine, so I am going to give that a try along with not eating after 7:00pm which I tend to do a bit. Thanks for the info.
