Liposuction has been around for decades. While people have gotten great results from it, liposuction is an invasive procedure. A new treatment, called lipo-dissolve, is now on the market and combines some of the benefits of liposuction with the ease of an office procedure.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select an experienced doctor. Lipo-dissolve is a relatively new procedure, but you want to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon who's been trained in lipo-dissolve and has performed it repeatedly.

  2. Step 2

Ask questions about the medicine. The ingredients in the medication that's injected work with your body's physiology to spot reduce fat. Ask your doctor exactly what's in the preparation he uses because it can differ between doctors.

  3. Step 3

Prepare for the needles. During the procedure, your doctor will inject medicine into the area that's being treated with small, thin needles. It only lasts about 10 minutes, however.

  4. Step 4

Expect side effects. Bruising and swelling are common, though patients typically can drive themselves home from the procedure and return to work the next day.

  5. Step 5

Come back for more. You'll need more than one treatment of lipo-dissolve to achieve the results you're looking for. Your doctor will discuss with you how many treatments you'll need and how far apart they'll be spaced.

Tips & Warnings
  • People who make a commitment to eating well and exercising achieve the best benefits from lipo-dissolve, so don't be surprised if your doctor spends a lot of time after the procedure discussing these areas.
  • Due to the needles' design, you won't need anesthesia for the procedure. Some discomfort is expected but not actual pain.
  • Lipo-dissolve isn't appropriate for people with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, pregnant and nursing women, those with autoimmune diseases, and others. Talk to your doctor about whether you're a good candidate.
  • Be wary of doctors who promise that lipo-dissolve is the cure for obesity. It isn't intended for large areas of fat, so make sure that your expectations are realistic.
