Choosing artwork to give to an artist can be hard. They are the expert on art, after all. How do you give an artist art that they will actually enjoy? Here are some tips to pick the perfect piece.
First, try to find out what kind of art they like. To do this, take a look at the art books they have around the house or their studio. Also, consider the kind of art they make. An artist who paints abstract art usually likes abstract art. Artists who paint realism usually likes realism.
Step2
This isn't a hard and fast rule, though. Many artists like all kinds of art. The best way to find out what kind of art an artist likes is to look at the art on their walls. Do you see that there is a theme in what they like? Do they like paintings with people? Animals? Wild shapes and colors?
Step3
Now that you have an idea of what they like, it is time to find a place to buy the art. Look for a reputable gallery that sells reasonably priced art. These are usually away from the trendy parts of town and are closer to the outskirts.
Step4
Artist appreciate quality so go for art that is on sturdy construction and is framed well. If the work looks shoddy to you then it will look shoddy to the artist you're giving it to, as well.
Tips & Warnings
If you know nothing about art and the whole idea scares you, then take photos of the artwork that the artist already has and take them with you to the gallery. Someone there should be able to guide you in the right direction.
