How to Create a Freelance Writer Resume

Your resume is a marketing tool to showcase your writing experience. Many companies will ask to see your writing samples and a resume in response to an advertisement. Your resume needs to be professional and informative, and it needs to sell your qualifications. The key is to keep it short and focused -- most freelance employers are hiring for a specific task, not for long-term, full-time work, so focus your Objectives section as much as possible on the job that is available and concentrate the rest of your resume on experiences that are relevant to that job.

Instructions

1. Create a Freelance Writing Career Focus (also called an Objective) statement for the job you are seeking. For example if you are applying for a freelance writing potion as a web copywriter, let your Career Focus highlight that. For example, your opening section might read:

   Freelance Writer Professional
   Increasing Traffic and SEO Ranking Through Innovative and Creative Writing

2. Create a summary of your writing experiences. For example:

   Writing Profile (also known as the Experience Summary)
   Proven ability to create and implement informative articles that keep readers coming back for more. Have written SEO Blogs that have increased traffic, reaching 700 hits per day.

   • Business Profiles

   You can adjust this format to fit the type of job you are targeting.

3. Create a Professional, Achievements (or Work Experience) section, such as:

   Professional Achievements
   List any jobs or types of writing you have done and are currently doing; for example:

   Freelance contributor - LIVESTRONG.com June 2010 - Present
   How to writer

   Blogger - www.lifeslove101.com 2007 - Present
   Personal website

4. Don't forget to add your education:

   Education and Awards
   (If you have taken any type of course for writing, insert it here.)

   Bachelor of Arts, English - East Southwestern State University, Nowhere, N.M.
   Diploma - General Studies, High School, Tucson, Ariz.
   Certificate - Writing for TV and Film, Richland College, Richardson ,Texas
