Doggy daycare bills racking up? Next time, ask a friend to care for Fido. With a few simple steps you’ll have a new (and free) place to drop your pooch off before hitting the road. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Pick the right person. The aunt with an allergy or your father-in-law with a hatred for dog hair aren’t good candidates. The best options are people who already own dogs. They will be the least bothered by an additional pet to care for.
Step2
Ask politely for their help. Explain why they are needed, what is involved and how much they’d be helping you out.
Step3
Once your friend agrees to dog-sit, make it as easy as possible. Supply them with the needed food, toys and treats.
Step4
Return from your trip with a gift. Even though they may not be expecting it, it’s the best way to ensure that next time you go out of town you’ll have someone to watch Fido.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be up front about any of Fido’s downfalls. If your dog likes to attack high-priced leather shoes, warn your friend so they can close their closets.
