Many writers dream of the day they’ll see their name published on the cover a best-selling book. Getting to that stage takes a lot of steps, including getting the manuscript ready for publication. Here are a few tips straight from a publisher.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • A manuscript
  • A publisher's contact information

Step1
It’s basic but crucial. Include contact information such as your name, address and e-mail so the publisher can easily reach you.
Step2
Include a prospectus of your manuscript. This is an introduction to the work and it should discuss several specific features including a book overview, audience, table of contents, reviewers, sample chapters and resume.
Step3
Either mail or e-mail the completed manuscript to the appropriate contact.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check out the publisher's website. They may offer more tips and suggestions for getting your manuscript ready.
  • It may sound obvious, but don’t handwrite anything. The manuscript should be typed and easy to read.
  • Don’t send in the only copy you have. Make a duplicate.
