Vintage window screens make cool wall pockets perfect for decorating any room in your home. You can embellish them with vintage ribbon, yarn and even clothespins.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vintage window screen
  • Tin snips
  • Floral wire
  • Yarn
  • Craft embellishments
  • Glue
  • Fabric
  • Flower tube
  • Flower
  1. Step 1

Cut out sheets of vintage window screen to 12 inches by 12 inches. You can make each pocket the same size or mix and match the sizes to create a grouping.

  2. Step 2

Lay the piece of vintage window screening out on a table. Embellish it with craft materials.

  3. Step 3

Cut out pieces of fabric in heart shapes. Paint fabric glue on the back of the fabric hearts. Place the hearts on the screen mesh and let them dry.

  4. Step 4

Thread a needle or upholstery needle with colorful yarn. Stitch the fabric hearts onto the wire mesh of the vintage window screen using the grids of the screen as your guide. This is like cross stitching. Trim any excess yarn.

  5. Step 5

Roll the sheet of vintage window screen into a cone shape. Have your fabric hearts visible form the front.

  6. Step 6

Sew the cone of the screen shut in the back using more yarn on an upholstery needle. Start at the top of the back of the window screen. Zig-zag in and out the whole way down the back.

  7. Step 7

Cut a piece of floral wire about five inches long. Tie it into a loop on the back of the wall pocket. Use this to hang the craft on the wall.

  8. Step 8

Pour some water into a plastic flower tube. Stick one flower into the tube. Stand the tube flower in the wall pocket on the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also line the inside of the vintage window screen wall pocket with some great vintage fabric. This will hide the floral water tube if you do not want to see it.
  • You can use new window screens, too. They have smaller grids then vintage ones, so you may need to use a needle and cross-stitching thread to sew it closed. You can also sew this with your sewing machine.
  • If your vintage window screen is rusty you can use sandpaper to remove the rust. Try sealing the whole piece with rust-free spray paint or clear acrylic spray paint.
